Rock in Rio 2026 runs on September 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13 at Cidade do Rock, Parque Olímpico, in Rio de Janeiro. This update is for the 2026 edition, whose final festival weekend is under way. Check the date on your ticket and the latest operating information before travelling; the seven dates do not mean seven consecutive festival days.
Use the correct edition and day
The official event information and festival FAQ identify the 2026 dates and venue. The FAQ lists doors at 14:00, closing at 03:00 and last entry at midnight. Recheck operational notices and your admission terms; artist set times and gate details are separate from the festival’s general hours.
Confirm your ticket is valid for your chosen day and complete the official activation steps applicable to it. Past sale announcements are not evidence of present inventory. We have not verified dates for a later Rio edition, and this page should not be used to reserve a future year’s festival trip.
The published 2026 transport plan
The organiser’s 2026 mobility guide describes coordinated MetrôRio and BRT Expresso services. Jardim Oceânico is the interchange and remains open around the clock during the festival operation. Other metro stations allow overnight exit, rather than unrestricted overnight boarding.
- SE008: Jardim Oceânico to Terminal Centro Olímpico.
- SE009: Terminal Alvorada to Morro do Outeiro.
- SE010: Terminal Paulo da Portela to Morro do Outeiro, with intermediate stops.
The special BRT ticket is bought through Jaé and tied to the selected festival day; the organiser describes a wristband for the return. Primeira Classe is a separate official coach option with a selected outward pickup and demand-based return. Check its booking conditions, departure point and remaining capacity directly. These are edition-specific services, not a promise for a future festival.
Choose your hotel and return route together
| Base | Why consider it? | What to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Barra da Tijuca | A stay focused on the western part of the city and festival area | The exact journey from your hotel to the permitted festival entrance or pickup |
| Copacabana or Ipanema | Combining a beach stay with festival dates | The full outward and late return connection, including the final walk |
| Centro or Lapa | A city base with sightseeing or live music as a separate part of the visit | Your actual evening route and reception hours |
Barra is a large area: the neighbourhood name alone does not make a hotel walkable to Cidade do Rock. Compare the room total plus every festival-day transfer. For a beach hotel, check the distance to your selected metro station or coach pickup instead of relying on a fixed “40-minute” journey estimate. Festival traffic and queues can change that calculation.

Arriving by air
Compare flights into Galeão (GIG) and Santos Dumont (SDU) for your origin and dates. They have different locations and route networks. Check the transfer all the way to your chosen hotel, including luggage and arrival time, before deciding which itinerary is cheaper.
Do not use a fixed airport-to-Barra driving time as your connection margin. Leave time for immigration where applicable, baggage, traffic and check-in. A flight arriving shortly before doors open provides little flexibility if delayed. For a return flight after the last show, account for the overnight finish, your transport back and the journey to the correct airport.
Search flights and select Rio de Janeiro (GIG or SDU).
Admission, travel and accommodation costs
Build the total from a valid admission product, return travel, the complete hotel stay, transport for each festival day, meals and a reserve. Check both the ticket seller’s final fees and the transport operator’s conditions. A coach or BRT booking is separate from festival admission unless a product expressly says otherwise.
Compare cancellation terms when buying a room or flight at short notice. This guide does not confirm live ticket availability, a package price or a guaranteed saving. Optional independent booking links below are search tools, not the official festival sales channel.
During the visit
Save your return instructions and hotel address, arrange a meeting point and keep your phone charged. Recheck the permitted-items list before leaving the hotel. Allow time for the walk from transport to security, and use the marked official access routes.
If extending your stay, put beach time, museums or other sightseeing on a separate day where possible. Late festival finishes can make an early timed tour or airport departure impractical. Choose transport for your condition and the time of night rather than assuming the daytime journey will work unchanged.
Official video coverage
Open Rock in Rio’s official video coverage page. The organiser describes broadcasts during Palco Mundo and Sunset performances. Availability can depend on the live schedule, location and broadcaster access; this link does not promise continuous playback or a permanent replay.
