Dreamstate is North America’s home of trance. Each autumn, Insomniac’s flagship trance festival takes over the waterfront beside the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, just south of Los Angeles — two nights of uplifting, psy and progressive trance with festival-scale production. If trance is your sound and you’re anywhere in the Americas, this is the pilgrimage. Here’s how to plan it.

When to go: the music calendar

  • Dreamstate SoCal — the 2026 edition runs November 20–21 at the Queen Mary Waterfront in Long Beach, California. Two nights, multiple stages spanning uplifting, psy and progressive trance. It’s an 18+ event.
  • The sound — a true trance festival: extended sets and back-to-backs from the genre’s leading names, the kind of lineup you normally have to cross the Atlantic for.
  • Sister events — Insomniac also runs Dreamstate editions in other cities (e.g. San Francisco earlier in the year), so check the calendar if SoCal dates don’t fit.

Long Beach hotels near the waterfront fill up on Dreamstate weekend — book your room as soon as you have tickets.

Getting there: flights to Los Angeles (LAX)

Fly into Los Angeles International (LAX), with a road transfer to Long Beach whose duration depends on traffic, with the widest choice of domestic and international routes. Long Beach Airport (LGB) is smaller but closer to the venue if the fares and routes line up.

Fares into LA rise around the festival weekend, so set a price watch early and book on a dip.

Where to stay (matched to your trip)

  • Downtown Long Beach / the waterfront — convenient for restaurants and pre-festival stays. Check the organiser’s event access and transport plan; proximity across the water does not guarantee a safe or open walking route to the entrance.
  • Belmont Shore / East Long Beach — a more relaxed, beachy neighbourhood a short rideshare from the festival, often better value.
  • Los Angeles proper — stay in LA if you want to pair the festival with the city, then rideshare or drive down to Long Beach for the shows.

Getting around

Southern California is car country. Rideshare is the simplest way to and from the venue late at night (expect post-show surge pricing), while a rental car makes sense if you’re exploring LA or staying further out. The Metro A line also connects LA and Long Beach. Prices and tips are in US dollars.

Plan for cool coastal nights. November evenings by the water get chilly once the sun’s down — bring a layer for the walk back.

Airport transfer

Skip the rideshare scramble at LAX and pre-book a private transfer straight to your Long Beach hotel.

Stay connected: get an eSIM

Visiting from abroad? A local data eSIM keeps maps, rideshare and mobile tickets working the moment you land — no roaming bills.

→ Get an Airalo eSIM for the USA

Rent a car

For LA day trips, beaches or staying outside Long Beach, a rental is the most flexible option in car-centric SoCal.

Money-saving tips

  • Buy tickets in the early tier — Dreamstate prices climb as the weekend approaches.
  • Stay in Belmont Shore or East Long Beach for better rates a short rideshare from the venue.
  • Split a rideshare or rental with friends to beat post-show surge pricing.
  • Fly into Long Beach (LGB) if fares beat LAX — it’s much closer to the venue.
  • Set a flight price watch into LA as soon as you know your dates and book on a dip.

Plan your Dreamstate trip

Watch LA fares and lock a Long Beach room early — waterfront hotels sell out on festival weekend.
