Awakenings is the cathedral of techno — the biggest, most respected techno festival in the world, in the Netherlands. Relentless four-to-the-floor across open-air and warehouse-style stages, monster sound systems and the genre’s absolute headliners draw a serious international crowd each summer. This guide covers the dates, how to fly in, where to stay, and how to keep costs down.

When to go: the music calendar

  • Awakenings Festival — the summer flagship runs in July at Beekse Bergen in Hilvarenbeek, in the southern Netherlands (the 2026 edition was July 10–12 and sold out). Confirm the next edition’s dates on the official Awakenings site — and buy early, it sells out.
  • The sound — pure techno (and its harder/peak-time variants), with the world’s top names: Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, Adam Beyer and many more across multiple stages.
  • Other editions — Awakenings also runs Easter, New Year and “Upclose” events; the summer festival is the marquee outdoor weekend.

Getting there: flights to Amsterdam (AMS) or Eindhoven (EIN)

Fly into Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), the main hub, or — closer to the site — Eindhoven (EIN). Beekse Bergen is roughly 120 km south of Amsterdam (about 90 minutes) and much nearer Eindhoven/Tilburg. Awakenings runs shuttle buses from nearby cities. Set a price watch and book early.

→ Search flights to Amsterdam (AMS)

Where to stay (matched to your trip)

  • Festival camping — the summer festival offers on-site camping; the easiest way to stay for the whole weekend.
  • Tilburg / Eindhoven — the nearest cities for hotels and nightlife, with festival shuttles to the site.
  • Amsterdam — base in the capital for the city and nightlife, then take the train/shuttle south (about 90 minutes) — good if you want Amsterdam too.

→ Compare hotels near Awakenings (Eindhoven/Tilburg)

Getting around

The smart route is the official Awakenings shuttle from nearby cities, or train to Tilburg/Eindhoven plus a connection. The Dutch train network is excellent if you’re coming from Amsterdam. The Netherlands uses the euro and is largely cashless; the festival runs a token/wristband top-up system.

Plan for summer weather. July can be hot or wet — bring sun protection, a poncho and a refillable bottle, plus earplugs for those sound systems. Sort your shuttle/return travel in advance.

Airport transfer

Landing at Schiphol or Eindhoven and not on a shuttle? Pre-book a private transfer toward the site or your hotel.

→ Pre-book a private airport transfer with Kiwitaxi

Stay connected: get an eSIM

Skip pricey roaming — a local data eSIM keeps maps, train apps, the shuttle schedule and mobile tickets working the moment you land.

→ Get an Airalo eSIM for the Netherlands

Explore by car

A rental helps for the more rural festival site and exploring the south of the Netherlands — though from Amsterdam the train is easy.

→ Compare and book a rental car

Money-saving tips

  • Buy tickets the instant they drop — Awakenings sells out, so that’s the cheapest (and only) way in.
  • Camp on-site to save on hotels and late-night transport.
  • Fly into Eindhoven if cheaper — it’s closer to the site than Amsterdam.
  • Use the shuttle or train rather than taxis from the rural venue.
  • Travel in a group and split camping and transport.

Plan your Awakenings trip

Lock tickets early, then watch fares into Amsterdam or Eindhoven and choose camping or a Tilburg/Amsterdam base with the shuttle.
