When to go: the chillout calendar
- Season — the island wakes up with opening parties in late April and runs through to closing parties in mid-October. The sunset strip in San Antonio runs nightly all season.
- The sunset ritual — Café del Mar (which gave its name to a whole genre of chillout compilations) and neighbouring Café Mambo and Savannah are the classic west-coast spots; arrive an hour before sundown to get a good place.
- Balearic & downtempo elsewhere — sunset and after-hours sessions at venues like Akasha at Las Dalias in the north offer a more bohemian, counter-programmed chillout scene away from the strip.
For the calmest, cheapest version of Ibiza, aim for May/June or September — warm sea, full sunset programming, and lower prices than the July–August peak.
Getting there: flights to Ibiza (IBZ)
Fly into Ibiza Airport (IBZ), about 7 km southwest of Ibiza Town, with heavy seasonal connections from across Europe (and one-stop routings from further afield). San Antonio and the sunset strip are roughly a 20–30 minute drive from the airport.

Getting around
Ibiza’s bus network (Discobús and day routes) links the airport, Ibiza Town, San Antonio and the beaches cheaply, and taxis are easy (if busy at peak times). A rental car or scooter is the most flexible way to chase sunsets at different coves. Spain uses the euro, and cards are accepted almost everywhere.
