Earth Celebration has announced August 20–22, 2027 on Sado Island, Japan. Presented by Kodo and Sado City, the festival brings taiko performance into conversation with music from beyond Japan. Ogi is the festival base; choosing the right ferry port matters as much as choosing an airport.
Two mainland approaches, different island arrivals
The organiser describes the Niigata–Ryotsu and Naoetsu–Ogi ferry approaches. Ogi Port is near the festival area, while Ryotsu is elsewhere on Sado and requires a substantial onward journey. Compare the complete itinerary before choosing a sailing: mainland rail, ferry check-in, crossing and the island connection all need to fit.
The access guidance currently available was updated for 2026. Use it to understand the geography, then consult the ferry operator for actual 2027 sailing times and booking conditions. Do not combine an old festival shuttle departure with a new ferry booking.
Stay near the performances you will attend
For several evenings in Ogi, nearby accommodation reduces the number of late island transfers. If you choose another Sado district, arrange the return journey before paying for the room. The organiser cautions that local buses can be infrequent and rental-car availability limited.
A car can support an island extension, but it does not settle festival parking. Confirm the new traffic plan and whether your accommodation provides parking. If travelling without a car, identify the specific bus or taxi connection for each arrival and departure.
Give taiko a complete listening session
Choose a main performance and allow time around it instead of treating the festival as a brief stop on a driving circuit. Ensemble taiko has visual and spatial dimensions as well as rhythm; the relationship between players becomes clearer when you stay for a full programme.
Workshops may have separate registration and transport arrangements. The 2026 guidance included dedicated workshop shuttles; that is background, not a promise for 2027. In particular, a reference to Kodo Village does not mean it is open for an unannounced visit.
Extend the island stay thoughtfully
Use Visit Sado to select one additional area rather than attempting to cross the island repeatedly between concerts. An extra night can create space for the onward ferry and a more relaxed cultural visit.
Before booking, confirm the 2027 ticket categories, workshop availability and final transport information. Keep room and ferry conditions compatible, and leave a reasonable connection margin. The confirmed festival dates provide the starting point; the detailed island journey still needs to be assembled from the new season’s timetable.
Compare travel services
These independent services are separate from the festival. Use the organiser for official admission. Third-party inventory, route coverage and eligibility must be checked with each provider; links do not guarantee that this event or destination is offered.
